Hermitage

Hermitage

Staff members who have worked at Fractured Atlas for 10+ years (or in extremely rare cases when justified) are eligible to request a month-long hermitage. Generally speaking, it's four weeks for you to get off-the-grid in order to work on a project that requires a concentrated period of uninterrupted time.

Hermitage projects have included redesigning the back-end of our helpdesk, blowing out a backlog of software development functionality, studying to pass an excruciatingly challenging certification exam, and creating a functional specification for accounting software.

The hermitage also allows us to identify the single points of failure that commonly arise when someone has worked at the company for a decade. It allows Fractured Atlas to become more agile and resilient, and often leads to other staff members developing new and different skills as a result. (We also hope that those on hermitage have at least a little fun while they’re gone and come back refreshed and ready for what’s next.)
