We don't say it enough whether to our friends, family, or coworkers. We don't say thank you, job well done, keep up the great work, I loved the way you did that thing, you're crushing it right now! Being an opinionated bunch we often focus on how we can constantly improve things and forget about the huge effort and emotional investment people put into their work every day.
Seven positive comments can easily be erased by one negative one. That's not to say we shouldn't give negative feedback — or surround feedback with so many pillows that the message is indecipherable — we all want to be kind and caring and supportive of those we work with.
When you see someone going above and beyond, shout them out on Flowdock or the core values board in the kitchen, or secretly leave a note on their desk with a little praise. When you need to provide a negative piece of feedback, try to put seven pieces of positivity out there in the ether. They don't all have to be for that one person but if we work together on this the net effect will be glorious. We're busy, focused, and mean well, but sometimes need a little reminder to say, "Thank you for doing what you do to make Fractured Atlas, well, Fractured Atlas!"
